I realized how many good photos I had of the Yayoi Kusama exhibition at Centro del Arte Reina Sofia but most of them haven’t got published here on the blog. Because it was so great I will do it now!
Entering the Yayoi Kusama exhibition it was not clear what to expect. Painting, rooms full of dots, light shows and strange furniture. All of this was created by Yayoi Kusama and was connected to each other. One important feature of her art are the dots which can be find all over in the pieces. On the floor, over the walls, on the furniture and as light in dark rooms. Even humans and animals are having these dots all over their bodies.
This was my favourite room in the Centro del Arte Reina Sofia. It was part of the Yayoi Kusama exhibition here in the museum. The light was constantly changing and sometimes we were in the dark.
The room itself was very small and the effect in the pictures came from the mirrors which covered all the walls.
Strange and menacing things were growing out of the floor.
I really had fun in her illuminated rooms.
What I liked best about the entire exhibition was the strangeness and beauty of this new world we entered. Yayoi Kusama is famous for expressing her inner fears she had as a child through art. She used to live in closed institutions where she would get help. The world she created for us is the world she was living in and the one she was scared of. Especially the room filled with the different lights made the people stare and wonder a lot. It was beautiful and fascinating at the same time. I would have prefered to stay much longer and observe the change of colors.
