Yayoi Kusama seems to be an artist you find quite often wandering around in Madrid. In 2010 she exhibited at Centro del Arte Reina Sofia and now her art is presented in the shop windows of Louis Vuitton. This time as a collaboration of the leather goods and fashion house.
Already in the exhibition at Centro del Arte Reina Sofia, Yayoi Kusamas art has been different, interesting and a journey to a strange but beautiful universe. If you haven’t seen it, this is a chance to go back in time and have a look at the post I wrote about it.
The most typical of her art are the dots and the play with light. You can see this very good on the scarf in this forest of bamboo. It is an alien object and a beautiful pieces at the same time.
A Yayoi Kusama exhibition wouldn’t be complete without the menacing, dotted tentacles coming out of the floor and ceiling, which have been haunting her all her life. This time they also haunt Louis Vuitton Kusama bags which have been designed after the pieces of art of Yayoi.
Even though I am not planning on getting me one of these handbags, they seem to be a lot more interesting to me than the classical Lousi Vuitton leather bags. They are like pretty memories from a different universe.
Besides the handbags I really love the light effects of these window installations. They are inspired no only by Yayoi Kusamas art but also by Japanese landscapes. This makes them very beautiful.
If you are interested in visiting these installations, all you have to do is pass by a Louis Vuitton store. They are two in Madrid as far as I know. One on Gran Vía and the other in the Corte Inglés at Paseo de La Castellana and maybe also in the other Corte Inglés in the center.
